Bio-ethanol production using waste papers via aspergillus Niger hydrolysis and saccharomyces cerevisae fermentation
Abstract
In this study, three types of waste paper: packaging box waste paper, old newspaper, and copier waste paper (office waste paper) were used to produce bio-ethanol. Enzymatic hydrolysis using Aspergillus niger and subsequent fermentations with Saccharomyces Cerevisae were carried out. The Percentage yield of bio-ethanol obtained using UV-vis spectrophotometric analysis was 1.29% from packaging paper, 1.41% from old newspaper and 1.86% from copier waste paper. Maximum yield of bio-ethanol was however obtained from copier paper. The results obtained indicated the potentials of converting waste paper products to bio-ethanol using enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation via different microorganism used in hydrolysis. Suggestions for further investigations have been proffered.
